Personality v. Aesthetics

May 22, 2017

Personality over physique.
Or at least that’s how it ought to be.

But we live in a society where aesthetics are over-glorified, receiving the gold and personality receives the silver or even the bronze.

It’s time physique came in third for a change.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good. Nor to feel good for looking good. Hey, in fact, that’s awesome. If you got it flaunt it. If you want it, go for it; contour it in etc…

It’s when we devalue ourselves for not looking a certain way. For not following the ordinary pattern and rules to achieve the same look everyone seems to have. If you’re into that, again, all power to you. But are you really into it or just following the crowds? Do you really think you’re not beautiful enough you have to be, but a carbon copy? Don’t you know there’s so much more to you?

Work on your personality instead. Water your intellect. Aim to beautify those two more than your physical appearance. Because, although it isn’t the “in thing” at the moment, it will be. That’s what you’ll have left. Beauty fades unless of course, you are swimming in money and can afford aesthetic procedures to get glam even at later ages. But even then, your personality and intellect are what you’ll have the longest. Work on them as much, if not more, than your physique.

You don’t have to stop working on your physique. Continue that too, but not at the expense of neglecting the other two.

Wouldn’t you prefer to be known as the down-to-earth and for your inner-self than just for a nice set of overrated, carbon-copied eyebrows?

I state this as a reminder because sometimes looking at all the makeup tutorials, hacks, and tricks, you could feel you’re not living up to the beauty standards game. But there’s so much more than what meets the eye.

Take care of it all. But do it because you want to. Feel comfortable in your own skin. Flaws are natural. Don’t bring yourself down. Be your biggest fan, not your greatest critique. After all, critiques are everywhere just waiting to pounce and tear you to shreds. Don’t let negativity bring you down. You are so much more than what your exterior shows.

Find your inner beauty. Find peace. Embrace it all.

Your exterior will fade, your inner will outlive it. Choose who you’ll feed the most and make sure YOU feel good about it. Do it for YOU and not because it’s fashionable at the moment. Fashions also fade. Don’t let them opaque the growing of your inner-self. Be more than a cover. Be authentic. Be you.
